Today, Humane Dominion, Virginia’s only political action committee (PAC) dedicated to making the Commonwealth a safer, more humane place for animals, is pleased to announce its endorsement of two statewide candidates for office:
Mark Herring for Attorney General
Attorney General Herring has a history of being a strong, pro-animal leader who will ensure that Virginia's animal protection laws are strengthened and will pushback against attempts to weaken hard-won improvements. In 2015, Attorney General Herring created the nation's first Animal Law Unit within the office of the Attorney General, which serves as a training and prosecution resource for state agencies, investigators and Commonwealth's Attorneys around the state dealing with matters involving animal fighting, cruelty and welfare. He has made it a priority to strengthen enforcement of animal cruelty and other animal related crimes, including through the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.
Jennifer Carroll Foy for Governor
Former Delegate Carroll Foy provided excellent answers to our candidate survey and supports legislation and policies to better protect animals in Virginia. As Governor, she is committed to continuing that support and invest state resources to address animal welfare. She has a history of supporting bills that protect and promote the welfare of animals, including ending public contact with dangerous captive animals ("cub petting" exhibits) and strengthening the code against chronic tethering. Before running for office, Delegate Carroll Foy served as a member of the Petersburg & Colonial Heights SPCA, uplifting the causes of companion animal rescue and the prevention of animal cruelty.
